  9.              cmp - file comparator.

  12.              cmp [ -l ] [ -s ] file1 file2
  13.  
  14.         DESCRIPTION
  15.              The two files are compared with value 0 returned if they are
  16.              the  same,  1  otherwise.   Specifying  a `-' for _✓f_✓i_✓l_✓e_✓1 will
  17.              cause standard input to be read instead.  _✓C_✓m_✓p  acts  quietly
  18.              if  the  files  are equivalent.  If they are different, then
  19.              the byte and line number of the first difference is  printed
  20.              and unless the -l option is used _✓c_✓m_✓p will exit.

  22.              Options:
  23.  
  24.              -l    Gives the byte number (in decimal) and  the  differing
  25.                    bytes (in octal) for each difference.
  26.  
  27.              -s    Acts quietly even if files are different.
